Observation details
First individual seen perched ca halfway up in the Russian-olive that had an EAKI nest this year, reach 3. Thick, short neck; grayish overall and unstreaked with pale yellow chin and undertail coverts. Slightly rough, low, emphatic "chup" call also matched. Shortly after, I got a good look at, and recording of, an individual (the same?) ca 30 m farther upstream. Later, ca 50 m above the diversion, I saw 2 individuals that were definitely different in appearance from the first, and I recorded one of these two. Both of these birds had a dark grayish suggestion of a mask, making them immature males; the one which I recorded had this more prominently. While they continued to call, I heard another calling from farther upstream.
