Media notes
Female on power line behind CPRA visitor parking lot.
Observation details
The female in the picture was behind the CPRA visitor parking lot where she made multiple dives to the ground for prey from utility lines/poles. After 10-15 minutes she headed toward the levee at which time I heard multiple, rapid calls. Next I spotted the male kestrel on top a utility pole next to the downriver side of the I-10 bridge and within the batture. It had grey sides in addition to a barred, rufous back that was similar but more colorful than the female. Both showed a grayish top of their head with white face and black vertical markings. The male eventually flew up onto the top of the bridge's under-story support structures. The male looked like the same bird I observed Saturday while the female looked similar to the female kestrel previously reported there last week.
