NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 3. Bulk reel: 256 a) 8/IV/68. ~7:00 AM. Weather: Cloudy, fair. One rattle call. Quality: 1-2. Level: +10. *This identification is not 100% sure (but is probably 99% sure). It sounds likek those in Cut 1 and I probably saw the bird, for original editing note identifies it as Veniliornis, but Piculus rubiginosus has a similar call. These rattle calls compare with those of Cut 1) and with [recordist drew arrow here pointing to notes of Cut 1] being essentially identical by aural comparison. The rattle call of Piculus rubiginosus (from Rancho Grande!) is lower pitched and the attack is not as sharp; also tails off at end (dropping pitch a bit), which these V. cassini rattle calls do not do (they end ~ abruptly). 22/I/74 PAS. b) 9/IV/68. 7:00 AM. Same location but at main camp. Cloudy. These calls positively identified (at least generically).
