Media notes

Large robin flock forming the nucleus of a mixed species flock. Robins primarily foraging in leaf litter, although fruit was also available. Stream noise in background.

Observation details

Large flock, although not all foraging in the same place. 40 or more encountered, mostly foraging in leaf litter, although Amur honeysuckle and privet fruit was also available and was likely also being foraged. Later around 50 streamed through the ravine from outside the park ,5 or so at a time, heading up to the ridge top where other robins had been moving to (at this point temperature was dropping below freezing and windchill was increasing significantly. Possibly they were gathering to roost with worsening weather).

Additional species

  • Red-bellied Woodpecker Melanerpes carolinus
  • Northern Cardinal Cardinalis cardinalis
  • Tufted Titmouse Baeolophus bicolor
