Observation details
Continuing on Cokato Road. Stockier than a house finch, also no brown streaked underparts which would indicate a house finch. It had a deeply notched tail and a brown patch between the eye and bill. Is raspberry tinted, not the strawberry red of a house finch. Also it has a pinkish neck as opposed to the rosy-red neck of a Cassin's finch as well as a shorter and less pointed bill than a Cassin's finch. And has more streaking on it's underparts than a Cassin's finch and doesn't have the bright red crown of a Cassin's finch. So indicative of a purple finch.
