Media notes

Merlin didn't hear this one. I didn't have my binos, but the bird wasn't very far away and I could tell its structure and plumage was that of a small shrike, and the most numerous one we have with the observed mask is red-backed. I suppose Southern Fiscal would be to only other possibility, but they are not common at this location. The bird looked quite young. Perhaps this is a RBSH call that is associated with immature birds, and therefore not readily recorded in Africa for Merlin training?
