Observation details

Lifer! One heard only. Difficult to identify visually because of its perch high up on a branch—I mostly only saw the belly, the underparts of the bill, and very short glimpses of its eye and head. Did not see its tail or upperparts at all. Tail appeared short (could be the angle), which was very confusing, but thankfully, long primary projection could be seen even in bad photos. Clear aural identification, thanks to sharp “peet” call heard and confirmed with Merlin. Large, chunky empid. No prominent eyering. Darkish cap. Grayish wash on whitish belly, dark-grayish pectoral band.
