Observation details
Careful count. At least 24 adults, 22 young, and 1 additional bird that was either an adult in basic plumage or a fully grown, independent juvenile. At least one adult was sitting on a nest. Most of the adults, though, were shepherding around precocial young, most of which were pretty small. Lots of piggyback rides and feeding the young what appeared to be small fish. Many of the adults and young were quite close to the trail, primarily along the north edge of the marsh, making for excellent viewing.
