Observation details

My goal was to photograph, or at least record, the "other" Thick-billed near the Merry Go Round which I have been regularly hearing. Very soon after arriving on site, I heard it call three times from far off in the trees on the hillside above the parking lots. I bided time chasing towhees before I again heard it, still on the hillside, but closer. Finally, after thirty minutes, it flew into view and spent at least ten minutes chasing insects at the top of the tall trees encirlcing the Merry Go Round. Here 34.132933, -118.283984. I remained until 12:20, then decided to head back to Mineral Wells trail to see if I could also find the Thick-billed Kingbird there. A second report covers that successful attempt. I made audio recordings at both locations.
