Observation details

In the general area, I counted roughly a dozen short-eared owls hunting from the time I arrived at 2:30pm CT until just after dusk. Toward dusk, the owls were joined by northern harriers. Generally, the owls and harriers seemed to get along, but there were occasional skirmishes between owls and between owls and harriers. When harriers were involved, the owls successfully chased harriers off their hunting patch.
