Observation details

Note: As per Avilist v2025 the swamphen complex will be lumped bringing together the former Western (P. porphyrio), Grey-headed (P. poliocephalus), and African Swamphen (P. madagascariensis) under a single species. These birds fall under P. madagascariensis in current taxonomy which is evidenced by: 1) Blue-headed 2) Turquoise-green colouration on lower back, scapulars, tertials, and tail BUT the majority of the wing is deep blue (contrary to P.poliocephalus and P.porphyrio) 3) Bright coral pink legs with concolorous tarsal and carpal joints ("knees and toes") (contrary to P.poliocephalus and P.porphyrio)
