Observation details
Continuing bird, found just north of the bridge. See photos. When we arrived, two other birders were looking for this bird in the large patch of scrub habitat at the end of Zhone Way, on the north side of the channel where the walking bridge is. One of them had seen the towhee about an hour before we arrived. After at least 30 minutes, we heard its mew call a few times and saw it briefly pop up in a coyote brush, then fly to another leafless bush. We eventually saw it perched in the open right next to the walkway. As you can see, it's a drab individual. It was a very cloudy day with rain predicted, so that likely reduced the lighting conditions enough to make the bird appear even drabber.
