Observation details

First seen in a tree on this hillside (33.3732345, -111.9405787), then followed to trees lining the canal here (33.3720000, -111.9403189), where this photo was taken. Initially only seen from the front (fairly large, yellow bird with orangish bill), and I debated what species of tanager it might be. I was worried that I had lost my chance, but fortunately was able to reconnect with it for better photos. These show dark wings lacking a white wingbar, consistent with Scarlet Tanager. Very exciting find, and a new state bird for me.
