Observation details
4 chicks following parents but the majority of birds (180) were mostly stationary on the opposite bank of the lake. I’ve added photos but only had my phone this time so probably can’t identify them from that but it shows there were a lot of them. Counted using binoculars individually from left to right. They were mostly stationary so unlikely to have double counted. Identified by the white head and brown body of the female in the pairs and the large size of the birds. We have seen large numbers of shelduck overnighting on lake Tewa before and have better photos from February showing the birds flying in and also sitting along the far bank.
