Observation details

Single bird flying back and forth between deciduous oaks west of Hope ranch road. Large woodpecker, dark above, salmon pink belly, flying with rowing wingbeats like a crow or kingfisher. Seen well, but I wasn't carrying my camera. [Once I figured out where to look, I was able to stop on Las Virgenea on my drive out and got distant documentation photos]
