Observation details
*Rare but annual in Westchester. Personal 7th record for the county and 2nd for Marshlands, after another Thanksgiving Break Twitch of a continuing Marshlands immature in 2023. Long-continuing bird that was first found on 10/18 by Rubina Heptulla as part of a pair, but the second bird was only ever seen in the early days. Stashing acorns and making cavities in the oaks around the stone monument on Marie’s Neck. Brilliant adult with full white secondaries and a bright crimson head. It remained quite furtive today as it moved around the oaks silently. Stayed high up and remained still for long intervals, making it hard to follow in poor light and gray skies. Ran off to chase the GWFG after 15 minutes with the RHWO, but hopefully I’ll get to see this bird again in better light and for longer another day. Blasé photos to come
