Observation details
Continuing bird found by Kevin McKereghan. Flew into the south side of the Cerrito Creek mouth at about 11AM, at a 3.5 foot tide, with a flock of Dunlin at about (37.8966918, -122.3123899). Before landing near the creek, the Dunlin flock (including the Rock Sandpiper) first flew past us heading south, returning several minutes later. The Rock Sandpiper stayed for about 40 minutes, seen on and off. From it's starting point at the south side of the creek outlet, it worked its way along the edge of the grass and mud towards the creek mouth, then flew to the north side of the creek and continued working the edge of the grass and scattered rocks. At the end, it flew to the now fairly distant edge of the mudflats to the south of the creek (with a 2.7 foot tide). It remained there for a few minutes, then wasn’t seen afterwards. We were about .5 mile north of the Albany Mudflats proper, just south of the Alameda / Contra Costa county line.
