Observation details

Likely an underestimate. Most of the time the majority of the birds were resting in the center of the lake channel between Vista Pointe and Smith Mountain, except when boaters would get close, then many would take flight. Photos included to show density of the flock, but they do not show the whole flock. They appear to be all ring-billed, with the occasional loon or grebe nearby. Flock size varies greatly depending on the time of day.
