Observation details
That wigeon was quite interesting! From what I observed, it had a striking rufous/red head, a buffy/creamy forehead, and its flanks were all brown, not gray (unlike the Eurasian Wigeon). There was only a hint of gray on the rump and lower rear flank. Although it is said to be a bit larger than an American Wigeon, I couldn’t tell any difference in the field from the ones it was with. A smallest patch of gray was on the back and bill, which was blue/gray. The duck was busy feeding, mostly around the edges of the pickle weed. It seems a late for it to be an eclipsed bird, and I didn’t see it fly or call.
