Common Loon (left) and Pacific Loon (right)
Observation details
Continuing bird. Seen far out to the southeast of the boat ramp near the large beige dry boat storage warehouse. Group of three loons observed together, two looked large, dark, blockheaded, and big billed. Third loon was smaller/compact and had a distinct round puffy cobra-like head and clean solid black/white neckline with a slender bill held at a horizontal. At one point there were three Common Loons and the Pacific together, but mostly just the two Commons. The Pacific showed a unique silvery pale gray crown and nape when highlighted by the sun which contrasted with the darker body. The Commons head and upperparts appeared mostly uniformed blackish. Observed with 20-60x80 scope for about an hour. Photo'd.
