Observation details
*continuing rarity - diminutive, vibrant white Anser goose with a short neck and a small bill. Embedded with large Canada goose flock for good size comparison. Something I’ve recently noted is that, while snow geese are often stained on the head and neck (presumably from foraging in tannic water) Ross’s geese rarely are. While there are plenty of unstained snow geese and presumably stained Ross’s geese, I’ve never seen a stained Ross’s, and it really adds to their scoop-of-vanilla-ice-cream-like impression, which I do not get from snow geese.
