Observation details

Listen to audio recording. Approximately 50-60 feet up in tree overlooking first sizeable meadow along irrigation ditch. I initially heard from afar a snarling noise that may have been a female call, but as I got closer the familiar hooting was being repeated. I walked directly under the tree and listened for approximately 10 minutes. I was not shining a light or using playback, but the owl took off and flew southward. It landed in a tree on the other side of the irrigation ditch and resumed hooting. As I walked in that direction, the hooting ceased. I was not able to locate the owl again. It was dark at this time (~7:15am) with some light from a cresent moon and it was so much fun!
