Sexed by voice in comparison to an apparent female sharing its perch before moving to a nearby tree.
Observation details
These are doubtless the same two Great Horned Owls that visited our neighborhood last week. Upon first arriving, they perched together at the very top of the tallest Italian Cypress behind a house across the street from us. When that perch proved too crowded or unstable for two large birds, the female flew north a short distance to another cypress in the same yard and landed where we could no longer see it. We attempted photographs of the male with very limited success. After about five minutes, he also flew off but continued calling from a perch about a block away. This is likely the same pair that perched together on the same Italian Cypress just over a year ago on the evening of November 12, 2024.
