Little Egret Feeding on a Mudskipper. I have often seen egrets and herons take fish but have yet to see any of the species feed on mudskippers. On 11 December 2025 on the coast at Kuala Gula, Perak, Malaysia, I observed a Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) take a mudskipper, possibly Pseudapocryptes elongatus (Elongate Mudskipper). The bird was foraging in the muddy, shallow pools left behind in the rocks when the tide went out. Mudskippers are not described in the diet of the Little Egret (Wells 1999, Mlodinow 2024). There are posts online of mudskippers eaten by a Reef Heron and a Great Egret.
