Observation details

Continuing bird, observed in the river for several minutes from the Benning Rd. Bridge on the east side of the driving range before it took off upriver. Just prior to my arrival, other birders had observed a ROGO in the channel on the other side of the driving range, which took off, headed toward this position. Small, white goose, significantly smaller than surrounding CANGs, with black wingtips, reddish-pink legs, short, stubby red bill with blue-gray base. The bird was at some distance, and I was observing with binoculars, not a scope, but the bill seemed small, with a straight-line base and no obvious grin patch, that and the overall size all suggesting Ross’s, rather than the Snow Goose that was also reported in the area.
