Observation details
A spectrum of plumages from full breeding to nearly full non-breeding. One individual came into my view carrying a whole tiny fish out of the waves; I don’t know if it caught the fish or found it dead. It then plonked the fish down on the wet sand and proceeded to nibble the flesh away, moving its meal down the beach every so often, until the fish was just a dangling head and tail connected by the spine. I’d never seen a shorebird eat a fish like this!
