Observation details
Two flew from the south loop, across the east-west road that separates the two loops, and began to fly over the first pond of the north loop. As they began to fly above that pond, the Snow and Ross’s Geese that were waiting in that pond took to the air in frenzied flight. Once the geese realized that they were again safe, they returned to the pond for another 25 minutes before leaving again to locate their final meal of the day. The pelicans had white plumage, black flight feathers, yellow bills, and the distinctive pouch.
