I have absolutely no idea why ebird suddenly thinks Striateds are rare for Cairns; unless some catastrophe I’m unaware of has occurred, they’re just as common as ever round here… Ok, it turns out that it’s an ebird glitch; in swapping over to some new taxonomic thing, they forgot that the Australian birds are Striateds, and always have been, and the South American birds are whatever the heck the South Americans want to call them; not really my business what they get up to over there, but I reckon the field guides don’t lie in terms of the names borders actually use… might be worth some moderator sorting this nomenclature issue out??
