Observation details
Videos of an immature (has a white belly) swimming with the Redhead and scaup. This is a new bird; i.e., Not a continuation of the 16 November bird, because the bill of the current bird is different (wrinkled at the base?) and its neck is much paler. (The reduction of the whitish patches does not eliminate the Nov 16 bird.) The first video shows the bird dip-bathing and then flapping its wings. The second video shows the bird swimming in a group and chasing a coot. The third video shows the bird swimming by the Redhead and diving. Identified by its complex head pattern, triangular bill, mostly dark body (except the pale and hidden belly, and dark secondaries. Slightly larger than the scaup but not as big as the Redhead. Much diving in the presence of the other divers. The flock was near the boat ramp twice, and on the second time, the flock arrived by flying from the middle of the lake. The only other December eBird record in Pima County was in 1995.
