Perched Cooper's Hawk after an unsuccessful dive attempt
Observation details
The immature Hawk was suspected to be around prior to the start of the observation. Their presence was confirmed later when exchanging trees in the immediate canopy. Towards the end of the observation, the Hawk made a dive attempt at the Pigeon on the lower ledges. They managed to momentarily stun one Pigeon in flight, which promptly regained their orientation and fly away. The Hawk stood on the asphalt for about a minute before taking back to the canopy. Eventually the Hawk took to the congregation tree, facing west-southwest while surveying the vicinity. A couple minutes later, they took an inclined flight southeast, causing the remaining Pigeon to flock overhead. I finally heard the individual make some calls while perched in the immediate canopy. Over the past couple of months, I never witnessed any vocalizations from the Immature Hawk but today they elicited a few bars.
