Observation details

Today, an active mixed flock motivated me to start a checklist. In the middle of birding, I heard a sharp, single-note call similar to that of a Coppersmith Barbet. Only a few White-cheeked Barbets were around, and I had never heard them make a call like that before, so it immediately caught my attention and I recorded it. Interestingly, the call was repeated again in the afternoon. After reviewing my doubts and comparing the recordings, I finally confirmed that it was a Malabar Barbet.(NB: The area is a dense, forest-like habitat with a variety of trees such as mango, coconut, mahogany, jackfruit, palm, and shield-leaf trees. It is not a dry site; instead, it has good moisture and moderate canopy cover.)
