Observation details

We had this “contender” bird come to the second pylon at about 4:50pm. Through the scope it looked larger with a darker bill. I attempted a few photos with my point-and-shoot camera, but it was quickly spooked by a passing boat. Looking at the photos the bird definitely looks larger; thick neck; blocky-head; white throat patch; white belly. I got a blurry photo as it left the pylon with the Double-crested Cormorant. In that photo it appears to have a much thicker neck and much longer wingspan.
