Observation details
Received a group alert on the possible presence of a Burrowing Owl near the oceanfront. It was seen in the 11th St parking garage on the oceanfront during our snow event 36 hours earlier. Since I was heading to Rudee anyways, I decided to work my way north towards 11th St. Given the stiff winds from the SSW and wind chill I figured any sheltering bird would be on boardwalk side of hotels vice Atlantic Blvd. Just north of Rudee Inlet proper I spotted the owl on the ground sheltering in lee of Dolphin Run Inn. I watched it eat couple of bugs in lawn and then it went into the storm drain. After 40 minutes it popped back out. Bird stayed close to building gradually moving on the ground about 50 yds further north. Rehabbers picked up the individual at 1:23. Based on bright white spots I would consider this Florida Subspecies.
