Observation details
Continuing adult. Likely same individual found on 12/7 by Josh U. at Riverlands. Reported here yesterday afternoon in the gull roost by Tommy G. and others. Joined many other birders this morning to view the rare gull as it floated among the remaining gull roost(viewed from beach here: 38.72114° N, 90.47969° W ). Small gull a bit smaller than the size of the surrounding Ring-billed Gulls(only super obvious when it swam directly between two Ring-billeds). Relatively easy to pick out from its gray mantle color which was a shade or two darker than the Ring-billeds. Bold white tertial crescent stood out as more contrasting. Small yellowish bill(a bit too far to make out of there were any small markings but lacked an obvious “ring”). Dark eye. Poor photo to come later. State bird for myself.
