Observation details
Continuing male originally reported yesterday by Mike Simon. I relocated it within a few feet of the shore at approximately 34.7696766, -118.7430601, viewed from the service road that parallels the south shore - easily viewable in binoculars, but the east side of quail lake is difficult to access and if this bird moves around it could easily require a scope. Typical looking male goldeneye with bright white flanks, but with distinct crescent-shaped white cheek patch and steep-sloped forehead that both distinguish from Common. Associating with a female Common Goldeneye. Photos
