Observation details
Fresh migrant off the ocean. Practically ignored my presence. The vireo was focused entirely on feeding on insects, allowing closer than usual approaches. It flew between the sparse trees on the green, at times diving directly onto the tall grass, where it was totally hidden, pouncing on insects, before immediately returning to a perch. It made a few attempts to pluck Bermuda Buckeye Butterflies mid air. At one point, the vireo grabbed a Bermuda Buckeye Caterpillar, perched on top of a rock, and ate it within 8 feet of me, allowing crippling views and photo ops. My best views and photos of this species to date.
