Observation details
Wow. I knew this flock had the potential to hold a Redpoll, and looked carefully yesterday with no luck. Today, after checking the siskin flock one by one, I pulled my binoculars down and with the naked eye thought I saw some red on the head of one of the finches. I brought my binoculars up to reveal the most beautiful sight— a gorgeous Redpoll foraging on the sweetgum spiky seed pods. It was similar in size to the siskins, but rounder, with less breast streaking, a dark facial mask and a nice red cap. It was easily lost amongst the big flock of siskin, but occasionally we picked it out by call as it flew between trees. Truly a dream find for me here.
