Observation details
As I was driving at highway speed, a bird shot across the highway, left to right, about windshield height, and maybe 50' in front of my car (maybe less?). My impression was that it was mostly brownish, with a long tail and long neck. I thought maybe it was a roadrunner or an accipiter (but I don't think I've seen a roadrunner fly like that - it was flying fast with wings tucked close to its body like a dart). I was able to make a u-turn, and there's a large pullout where I could watch the roadrunner walking across the driveway then up a hill. While reviewing my photos, I noted that the roadrunner often turned so it's back was towards the sun, and erected the feathers on its back (on a seasonably cold, sunny day).
