Observation details
Continuing. Found by Mr. Mulholland yesterday. It was frequenting the red flowering gum or eucalyptus tree at 32.87993,-117.24442 and drinking nectar. (Once it even went to ground and drink from one of the few bottlebrush flowers too.) It moved about in the hedgerow behind the red flowering tree and along the fence left and right as well. Did not go up into the large Tipu while I was there. Calling sounds similar to an Allen’s hummingbird…a very quiet tick, tick, tick. (I tried to capture sound, and will post if it worked.) It became more vocal as it approached, and while it was in, the red flowering tree. Active between 0700 and 0750. (Thanks to David T. for sending out a list-serve email to help spread the word, I am unable to send list-serve messages for some reason so I relied on WhatApp knowing several would really want to see this rare bird, though not an A bird.) Ph.
