Observation details
Juvenile or female. Small duck swimming around pond alone at times, and then also associating with some Hooded Mergansers. Originally observed diving around the pipe and rocks at the north side of the pond. It eventually began diving and staying under for long periods of time as it wound move along the shore nearest the road. It also liked hanging out in the corners of the pond where it would dive for prolonged periods of time. Before I left, it eventually was seen along the south side of the pond with a line of Hooded Mergansers. About the same size as the Mergansers, or maybe a bit smaller (definitely smaller size than Scoters, but larger than a Bufflehead). Darker chocolatey brown head and back with some lighter brown underneath. Small black bill with white on face around the base of the bill and eye, and a single white dot behind its eye.
