Observation details
***very rare—continuing vagrant found Max Epstein yesterday afternoon. Refound by Bob Proniewych this morning. Nice find! Second state record and first in 25 years, and first Suffolk record. Structurally, similar to a chunky SOSP. Plain brownish gray with thin pale eyering. Some pale fringing on greater coverts. Darks to coverts. Primaries showed rufous centers. Some rufous centers on mantle. Slight grayish collar. Pencil streaking up crown and nape with plain underside. Tertials on one wing had been replaced but not on the other 😮. Per Brendan, not unexpected in context given geography of area the species’ predilection for ends.
