Observation details

Large duck with straight collie-dog head and bill profile, seen in Ellis Bay from "Two Pecan parking lot." Plumage all unpatterned dark brown except for nearly circular pale auricular patch (whitish but with slight dark marks within it) and another pale patch on base of bill, beginning as a white spot on the lores and continuing as tan color onto feathering of inner part of bill (or so it seems from the photos). White wing patch also peeking out from under the wing toward rear of body. Swam placidly past me, continuing eastward and out of sight -- but I couldn't relocate it later in the broader part of Ellis Bay.
