Observation details

A little sub-alpine treat! Two family groups seen: 3 then 2 (could have been 4 & 3) First group of 3 was seen under the power lines here at 550m (48.52762, -123.60451). First detected from a distance by call shortly after we heard a STJA. One (possibly 2) stayed high and watched over 2 as they foraged low on the ground. They got very curious and flew right up to us (~3m) what a treat! Second group was seen as we were coming down to the Sooke Wilderness trail from the power lines area here at 400m (48.51549, -123.57490). Again first detected by call, then seen with one up high and another one foraging down low. Lifers for two in our party! Amazing views for your first time seeing these birds. Photos and audio.
