Observation details

Female flushed from nest when the person concerned was less than 5 metres away. Nest contained 3 eggs, which judging from the lack of any discoloration and the number of eggs, suggests that the clutch was incomplete and the eggs fresh. Nest very rudimentary, simply a depression in moderately tall pasture grass, beneath a tree, with little more than a few thing grass stems roughly moulded into an incomplete bowl. The area beyond the edge of the nest itself was slightly flattened, no doubt by the sitting bird, but the eggs were quite deeply embedded in the base of the nest. A male had been calling persistently from nearby as we wandered, inadvertently, towards the nest.
