Observation details
Juv/1st winter, roosting off Iley Point with the GBBGs. Hard to digiscope in the wind. However, sufficient details were observed to rule out Herring and YLG. Overall gave upright, high-chested posture. Sloping forehead. Dark, un-notched tertials. Weakly patterned mantle, and a few grey 2nd cycle scaps alongside dark, retained juv scaps. Greater covs plain and brown. Bill more straight and weaker gonydeal angle vs Herring. When unfolded wing was shown, underside was pale. This bird was yet to develop the completely clean headed appearance of a 1w, and alongside the juvenile scapulars, I think this distinguishes it from the birds seen on 12.09.
