Observation details
Adult and 1st-winter bird together in the mowed grass and Phrags very close right in front of the blind. Neither showed any evidence of being hybrids. The 1w bird showed a small grin patch but Ross's can often show a small black grin patch, though obviously not as prominent as in hybrids or in full Snow Goose. A small grin patch is often present in 1w Ross's (as this 1w Ross's showed) because their bills are still growing and not yet fully formed. A juvenile Peregrine almost took one of the Ross's but soon gave up the attempt!
