Observation details
Late. Three together with other sparrows at (40.79675, -73.95442). Augie Kramer reported 2 here on December 4 and I saw 2 here on November 9, so these could be some of the same lingering birds. Today, these birds were once again in weeds and shrubs along the channel parallel to the Davis Center, at the west end of Harlem Meer, where water flows in from the Loch. I heard their descending "seew" flight calls for a while before I finally spotted them. Later heard giving a couple chip calls too. This photo shows two of the three. Each had a pink bill, white eye ring, rufous- and gray-striped head, and unmarked pale grayish-tan breast and flanks.
