Observation details

Immature in rapid flight along the shoreline chasing a small passerine, which it was unsuccessful in nabbing. In the process, a large group of resting gulls on the ice flushed, but soon returned after the hawk had passed by. The hawk proceeded to perch in a small tree just west of the drive going down to the boat ramp. As it was perched, it voiced an unfamiliar call note (recorded). After a few minutes, it suddenly took off, flying with characteristic fairly quick flaps and short glides, as it moved rapidly in a southeasterly direction out over the bay toward the Mere Point peninsula. Photos and audio recording.
