Observation details
A surprise encounter in the parking lot. I was scanning the back of the marsh for perched raptors when the bird flew in and began hovering over the small field on the left by the road. Beautiful! When I moved it subsequently flew to the pole where I was able to photograph it before it flew through the marsh. I believe this is a juvenile or immature bird, with characteristic very dark belly band and “wrists”, as well as a light head.
