Observation details
amazing, beautiful, perfect, cherubic. at bench 9 on west pond, i rounded a corner and saw two birds under the bench, the first bird saw me and took off into the brush, but i noted its long tail, large stature, brown color and white outer tail feathers. i said to myself “that looked a lot like a vesper sparrow”, then i looked at the bird that was still on the ground, which turned out to be a vesper sparrow. the bird that stayed and that I got continued looks at was a beautiful bird, and had tiny flecks of rich chestnut on the shoulder, crown and cheek. It hung out on the bench for a while, then hopped onto the gravel, then eventually moused under the bench and into the brush where I never saw it again. I returned to the same spot about 10 minutes later and couldn't find it.
